Day 2 - Still Swimming

Our story for the second day of VBS was the story of John baptizing Jesus in the River Jordan. John was shouting to everyone the news that Jesus was coming but when Jesus arrived John was not sure if he should baptize him until Jesus told him it was what God wanted.
Lori talked about baptism in the church and even showed us how a baby might be baptized. Some people remember being baptized so could tell us about it.
Our crafts today included making clay beads and finishing off our whales (or big fish!) Some people did some marbling while others worked on sand, tissue or bead projects.
As the week goes on and our crafts are dry/set/baked or finished they will go home although we hope some people will let us display things in church for our service on Sunday.

PARENTS - On Friday our games will involve water. There is no need to send swim suits or towels but a spare t-shirt might be useful. We have reserved this fun game day for the end of the week and we will remind the children before hand.

Go Fish With God

Today we launched our annual Vacation Bible School. We have 35 children registered and over 20 adults involved with the week. This, our St James' Children's Ministries Blog, will be seen by all those families this week. We will try and share some of the things we have been doing and some of our plans for the week.

Our theme, Go Fish, is illustrated on campus with some fishy panels, some hanging fish and even a  real boat in church.
Along with singing we learned some sign language today, hopefully we will get better at it as the week goes on!
Do you know how a seahorse moves? Or a crab? We found some different ways to move around between activities - some of them looked very funny!
Today our craft activities included making a big fish (or whale), and Jonah to go inside him. Lots of the kids took delight in drawing pictures to illustrate the other things the whale may have swallowed!
Our Monday snack was a beach 'trail mix', including life preservers (cheerios), driftwood (pretzels), seaweed(noodles), coral (dried fruit) and pebbles (choc chips)
Our theme also continued with crafts using both water and sand.

Each day our kids will be collecting 4 cards that relate to our theme. Today the 4 cards illustrated the story of Jonah. By the end of the week they will all have a set of cards they can use to remind them of the stories, play matching games with and even play Go Fish!

We will all sleep well today and look forward to another day of Go Fish with God tomorrow.

SaintJKids is the blog relating to all children's activities at St James' Episcopal Church, Fremont, CA. Every week during our 10.30am service childcare is available for under 4's in our nursery which is situated right by our worship space. All kids (and parents) are welcome. During the school year Sunday School meets at 10.15am. The children join their families in Church before the Eucharist part of the service.
During the summer we have a week of Vacation Bible School when we enjoy stories, music, games and crafts all over our campus.
